fischer group researches on hydrogen technologies

fischer eco solutions is participating as a cooperation partner in the research project "Hydrogen technologies in the Southern Upper Rhine" of the Fraunhofer Society with the aim of promoting hydrogen technologies in the region.

Electrolysis and hydrogen are recognized in many studies as important components of the future energy system. Despite the great potential for emission reduction and successful demonstration and test projects, green hydrogen is still not sufficiently present in the energy system in Germany. In the project "Hydrogen Technologies on the Southern Upper Rhine", 21 project partners, coordinated by the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE), are investigating the potential in the region and developing solutions to promote these technologies.

The aim of the project is to link numerous players from all sectors in the Southern Upper Rhine region with regard to hydrogen and fuel cell technology. "We want to use this to support the introduction of hydrogen into the energy system, which is currently still failing for various reasons," explains project leader Christopher Voglstätter, team leader Power-to-Gas at Fraunhofer ISE.

Interdisciplinary cooperation

For the project, representatives from all relevant stakeholder groups have joined together to form an interdisciplinary consortium. In the first step, the consortium is conducting a survey to determine the maximum potential for the use of hydrogen in the region, and will then determine which steps and measures are necessary to introduce hydrogen and large-scale electrolysis for the production of synthetic fuels into the energy system.

The results are then to be incorporated into regional development and communicated to politicians, scientists and the public. It is planned to provide input for the region's climate protection plans and measures, to draw up a hydrogen roadmap, set recommendations for action and strengthen the hydrogen community. Among other things, this is intended to promote accompanying or subsequent projects for the introduction of hydrogen into the regional energy system.

"fischer eco solutions is participating in this project as technology supplier for fuel cell systems. We are pleased to be part of the research team and to help shape the development of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies in the region", explains Roland Fischer, CEO of fischer eco solutions GmbH.
